With rising temperatures and health concerns all around, staying hydrated and building a strong immune system is of primary importance. My yoga guru, late Dr. Padmanabha Swamy always emphasized gut health— said it all begins from the gut so - keeping our system clean and flushing out toxins is the key to good health, by drinking plenty of water.
Since plain water can get monotonous, I like to switch things up with natural alternatives: fenugreek-soaked water, coriander-cumin infusions, chia seed elixirs, or chilled buttermilk with garlic, Cinnamon water, Turmeric Pepper water. Each brings its own health benefits while making hydration enjoyable.
To beat the heat everyone naturally reaches out cold drinks. But instead of sugary cold drinks I make my own summer coolers which have natural fructose!
Earlier too I have shared quite a few on my Blog which you can revisit by clicking my link:

Today, I’m sharing two easy, refreshing blends: Malta & Lemon Juice with Mint, and Mango with Lime & Malta—a delicious way to beat the heat while nourishing the body.
I had a surplus of Malta Orange, Mint, Mango and lime at home so experimented with them instead of eating them individually as it never finishes. While I have given the measurements, you could experiment as per your taste of sweet and sour!

MALTA ORANGE + LIME + MINT & MANGO WITH LIME AND MALTA |
- Malta Orange Juice -1 cup
- Lemon Juice - 1/4 cup to 1/3rd cup
- Mint leaves - 1/4 to 1/2 cup
- Water -1 cup
- Sugar - 2 to 3 tablespoons (I avoid sugar, so I add less or sometimes don't).
- Most may not like the taste without Sugar but those who have to avoid sugar the fructose in the fruits should be just fine .
- Malta Orange Peel - 1/4 to 1/2 cup
- For Garnishing - Orange peel and few sprigs of mint leaves
- Boil water and sugar together and make a sugar syrup. Cool for a while.
- Pour over the freshly washed mint leaves. (soak mint leaves in a little salted water for 5 minutes before using them as it cleans better).
- Then add the Malta orange juice, the lime juice, and the orange peel and mix well.
- Regarding the Peel - I didn't buy the readymade one and neither did I have the home made one. These invariably turn dark.
So, I just put the half Malta rounds in the freezer for quite some time till they hardened and then I removed the pith which comes off easily.
I cut them into small squares, or you could even peel them into curls. - Once all ingredients are mixed, stir well and keep it covered at room temperature for an hour and then strain the juice and chill.
- Garnish with a few sprigs of mint leaves and orange rind and serve chilled
NB .I plan to make Powder out of the dried malta orange and use as a face mask -you could too.
- Malta Orange Juice - 2 Cups
- Lime Juice - 2 tablespoons (check the sourness first) Add 1 more teaspoon if you want a little lemony taste
- Mango Pulp: 1/4th to 1/2 cup (blended well in a mixie with little water)
- Sugar - 1/4 to 1/2 cup (first put 1/4th cup and check the sweet, then add more if required)
- Ice Cubes as desired
- Lemon wedges, Cherries for Garnishing
METHOD
- Make a sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water together. Condense it to 3 tablespoons syrup.
- Combine the Mango, Malta Orange and Lime Juice in a Glass. Add sugar syrup and stir.
- Add Ice Cubes and mix well so that the sugar syrup blends in the juice.
- Garnish with Lemon Wedges and cherries
Drink plenty of lime juice because the ascorbic content of lime helps in the quicker healing of wounds, helps maintain your teeth, hair nails and complexion in good condition and guards you against catching cold.
Beauty mask: Mix a tablespoon of Gram flour with one-fourth teaspoon of orange peel powder, one tablespoon of beaten curd and one teaspoon of olive oil.
I've tasted these Summer Coolers and they are delicious and refreshing indeed!
